Marlon King's 93rd minute penalty earned Blues a 1-1 draw at London Road but Hughton felt that had the side converted their goalscoring opportunities they would have taken maximum points from the game.
"I'm more disappointed that we didn't win the game than pleased about the fact we salvaged a point so late on," the Blues boss said after the match.
"This game is all about putting the ball in the back of the net and we were found somewhat wanting in that regard.
"I didn't see the penalty incident live but I've had a look since and there is no doubt it is a spot-kick.
"Falling behind so early on gave the home crowd a big lift which we could have done without.
"We have to make more use of our experience to stop that sort of thing happening."
