Blues had to come from a goal behind to win 3-1 at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon with goals from Chris Burke and a Chris Wood brace.
"In football you need a spark and Chris provided that for us with an exceptional strike," the Blues boss said after the game.
"It gave us something to build on and the players sensed then they could go on and win the match.
"It would have been easy to settle for a point but the players wanted to push forward.
"We also had players in Chris Wood and Marlon King to come off the bench and influence the game and that's what they did.
"It has given us all a big boost in confidence because we've had some tough games this season but to come back and win at The City Ground shows that we have a lot of character in the side.
"What we have to do now is find some consistency and start games in a lot better way.
"But we can enjoy three very good points tonight because with Europe it's been a tough week.
"To record two away wins is very pleasing and rewarding."
