Blues secured their place in the Championship play-off's by taking a point against the Seagulls but Blacpool's home win against Burnley saw drop to fifth in the table.
Hughton is now keen for Blues to take points from Championship winners Reading at home on the final day of the season so that they can play the second leg of their play-off semi-final tie at St Andrews.
"I am delighted for this group of players. I've had great support and I am happy for all of them," the Blues boss said after the draw at Brighton.
"It was a tough summer but it doesn't matter as long as we are in the play-offs.
"Getting there is the main thing, although a second leg at home would be nice."
