Blues had to come from a goal behind to secure a 2-1 win at St Mary's and a place in this weekend's Third Round draw "It helps confidence and creates good habits, winning in the cup," McLeish said after the match. "I'm not entirely pleased with the performance but I didn't expect it to be smooth because we made a lot of changes and rotated the squad. "When we went a goal behind I thought we were going out of the cup but I felt we had goals in us and we soldiered on. "If we'd gone two behind then I think Southampton would have seen it through but we got a lot stronger. "It was a classic Bowyer goal and Carsley has played a captain's role and got the winner."
Adam Lallana put the hosts ahead just after half time but Lee Bowyer and Lee Carsley scored within three minutes of each other towards the end of the game to give Blues victory against the League One side on Tuesday night.
