James McFadden's injury time winner from the penalty spot gave Blues a 1-0 win against Paul Hart's side at St Andrews on Wednesday night. "It is only the start but it was a great victory nonetheless because we lamented the fact last time in the Premier League that we drew too many home games. "I think we deserved to win it in the end. I thought we had the better chances, we took the initiative right from the off. "We worked hard at getting it right. We played some good football. "We did get put through the mill today but we have got a great victory."
"We are delighted because we know how tough it is to win in the Premier League and especially coming up from the Championship and being tipped as the underdogs throughout this coming season," the Blues boss said after the game.
"We got a bit tired in the second half but came strong again with the substitutes.
"As for the penalty, I was nowhere near it but the players are adamant David James was over-zealous with his challenge.
