Bruce was upset with his defenders after Blues had squandered an early lead to eventually lose 2-1 at St Andrew's on Tuesday night. "We simply have to win a couple of games to improve our fortunes, but losing three players in the first half with bad injuries sums up our season and it is killing us. After making a good start the confidence evaporated out of the team. "The injuries made a big impact on our performance. I do not want to make excuses but we defended badly for their two goals. "There was not enough resilience or determination. We made big mistakes and it has been a tough time. We have got to show some guts and character if we are to get out of trouble. "We now have a Cup Final here on Saturday against Fulham and we have got to change our fortunes. "I don't think we deserved to lose this match against West Ham, but people saw where our problems are at the moment. Unfortunately that has been our season so far. "We really need players to put away the chances we create and not waste them as we did against West Ham."
"One point from seven home games is horrific," the Blues boss said after the game.
