Bruce's View: Liverpool

With Blues leading 2-1 and just five minutes away from their first win in front of their own fans the referee's assistant harshly adjudged Julian Gray to have fouled Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrad and from the resulting free-kick the Blues midfielder was then adjudged to have conceded a corner which led to the penalty that earned the visitors a point from the game.

"We feel harshly treated by the linesman who gave the two decisions - the alleged foul on Steven Gerrard and then the corner even though Julian Gray claims the ball did not go out," Bruce said after the game.

"We all make mistakes but the linesman was just five yards away. I think even Steven Gerrard new that he had fallen over the ball so we feel desperately disappointed.

The Blues boss was however pleased with the performance of the side against the European Cup holders.

"I think our two wide lads caused them problems all afternoon.

"We struggled in the first half to be fair. There was a little edginess and a little nervousness because of the results we've had.

"But, in the second half and a goal down their attitude was magnificent.

"We could have felt sorry for ourselves but we got ourselves into a position where we could have won the game."
