Blues did however have two good chances of taking the lead at Stamford Bridge through Stephen Clemence and Emile Heskey but once Chelsea went in front through Hernan Crespo it had been an uphill struggle for an injury ravaged Blues side, who had to play for almost eighty minutes without centre-back Matthew Upson after he was forced off with an ankle injury. "Then we went and lost Matthew Upson with an ankle injury. He is a big player for us and we missed him. "Once they scored, it was very difficult for us. "But we have seven players at home unavailable for us. We need to get them back quickly, if we do then I'm sure we will stay in this division. "I will try and see what I can do in the transfer window which opens tomorrow, but I don't know how much money I have. I need to bring in better players than I've got and a good striker will cost a lot of money. "Ideally I'd like to bring in two or three players."
"You can't expect to come to Stamford Bridge and get something if you don't put away one of those two early chances," Bruce said after the 2-0 defeat.
