Birmingham City 2 Newcastle United 2 03 October 2004 at 15:00 Player Ratings |
Taylor - Didn't have too much to do. Not at fault for either goals but was almost embarrassed by Robert's late free kick effort.
Melchiot - Didn't get forward as often as usual but still a steady performance once again.
Clapham - An adequate performance although may have done better with the header that led to Newcastle's equaliser.
Cunningham - Marshalled the defence well.
Upson - Good performance considering the opposition and a welcome first ever goal for the club.
Johnson - Worked tirelessly as always and put in some good crosses when going forward down the right flank.
Gronkjaer - A constant threat throughout. Worked hard. Possibly his best 90 minutes since joining the club?
Savage - An erratic first twenty minutes but when he settled put in his usual workman-like showing. Great dead-ball cross for Upsons goal and was unlucky not to score himself.
Izzet - Did a good man-to-man marking job on Bowyer before what looked a bad injury.
Dunn - Absolutely superb. Keep him fit and we'll be climbing up the table rapidly.
Heskey - Clearly not fit hence the nine minute appearance.
SUBS:
Clemence - Good performance in the middle of the park after his introduction. Took over where Izzet left-off.
Yorke - Held the line well, took his goal superbly and perhaps could have won it with a great shot on the turn late-on.
Gray - Cameo seven minutes appearance as a replacement for the tiring Dunn.
