Anyone who has read any of my previous rants will know I have a fondness of comparing games with Christmas presents. Well this is like your aged and somewhat forgetful aunt buying you a season ticket for Wolves. Not totally unexpected but still disappointing.
And you know it could have been worse than five. The second best keeper in the country injured colliding in a goal mouth scramble which also saw us two down. From here on in it was score next or go into damage control. So damage control it became. We played like a team in a relegation battle and Liverpool played like a team on the cusp of qualifying for Europe. An ironic chant from our supporters down 5-0 “We’re going to Europe” was the highlight of the game for me. So now we have to bounce back. We need Foster and Ferguson back and some self belief that we can beat Wolves on Saturday. Because a loss could be fatal for our survival. The old this is a six point game has never been so true.
We may be able to get three points out of games against Spurs, Fulham and Newcastle, but to me Saturday is the time and the place. Wolves can get results from West Brom, Sunderland and Blackburn. And a result against us would see them finish the season on 42 points! So if we don’t want to take there place and have to use that season ticket for Wolves in order to see premier league games on next year. Well Saturday could be our only chance.
