Not even the return of £2.5million summer signing Luciano Figueroa to Keith Bertschin's side could help prevent last seasons Reserves League title winners completing a season's double over the Blues second string.
Chris Black opened the scoring for the Black Cats just five minutes into the game before Premiership Reserves League (North) top scorer Michael Proctor weighed in with two more goals to take his tally for the season to 12.
The first of Proctors goals came a minute before the half-time whistle to give the Black Cats a 2-0 lead and his second and Sunderland's third completed the scoring 15 minutes after the break.
