Blues Res 2 - Liverpool Res 0

Last updated : 01 September 2003 By Brian Cartlidge
Keith Bertschin's side included Damien Johnson - returning to match action after a hamstring injury picked up while on international duty.

Blues took the lead in the first minute when Johnson, on the right, beat his marker and produced a brilliant low cross for Curtis Woodhouse to tap home.

Kirivski almost doubled Blues' lead when a mistake by Liverpooll defender Xavier let in the Blues marksman but his blistering drive was superbly saved by Arphexad in the Liverpool goal.

Five minutes into the second half Bernard Diomede missed a great chance to equalise for the Red's but he shot wide when completely free in the Blues penalty area.

Christophe Grondin replaced Johnson 10 minutes into second period.

Blues made it 2-0 after 64 minutes when Grondin's cross from the right was missed by the Liverpool defenders and from a tight angle Craig Fagan found the net.

Fagan almost doubled his tally 10 minutes later with a shot that brought a good save off Arphexad.

Kirovski then curled a free-kick just over the bar as Blues played out time.
