Painter was recently named in the Republic of Ireland's Under 19 squad for the double header against the Italians earlier this month but was forced to withdraw through injury.
However, the young Blues defender has now received his first ever call-up for Don Givens' Under 21 side for the international friendly against the Portugese in Alchchete on Tuesday, February 8th.
