Saturday's man in the middle: Uriah Rennie
It's usually a portent of doom when the ref is better known than two- thirds of the players on the pitch. Rennie is no stranger to publicity but usually for all the wrong reasons. However, judging by his display at St Andrews, the Yorkshire man seems to have mellowed over the summer.
Rennie took just 14 minutes to produce a card. Damien Johnson needless and recklessly challenged Bryan Hughes in what looked like a stunt from Kill Bill. Johnson was lucky that it was only a yellow waved in his face, a straight red was warranted.
The game was played at a slow pace and the man in black had little to do. He wasn't afraid to challenge the assistants decisions and was quite prepared to talk to players to give them a warning.
The second yellow came after the break and it was Johnson again who didn't bother to get his marching orders.
Savage made sure he wasnt forgotten and shortly afterwards Gronkjaer and Hreidarsson followed. Gronkjaer appeared to be fouled just outside the area but the ref waved play on. Gronkjaer decided to take matters into his own hands and handbags were thrown, hence both players receiving bookings.
Rennie missing Hreidarsson's elbow on Gronkjaer late on appeared to be his only glaring mistake. He missed a few chances to play on and when he did so it wasn't usually to any advantage but overall he had a good game, despite the number of cards produced.
