Gutted! It must be said…at the weekend Blues were terribly, utterly, totally, amazingly unlucky, and many of us would say that this is typically our luck (not that we have much of the priceless stuff – unlike Arsenal and Chelsea!).
Blues played overall much better than the Londoners’ did. Bruce’s men ran rings around Chelsea for most of the game but failed to take the chances, and at this level we can’t afford to do that.
Julian Gray had a brilliant home debut – causing lots of problems to the Chelsea defence, and in the last minutes of the first half Julian hit the post – typically our luck!
All credit to the Blues fans though; as usual the atmosphere was electric. “Keep Right On…” was sang right around the stadium as the teams greeted their opponents (a new respect mark introduced this season by the FA)
Okay, we got nothing from the game but with that sort of performance against one of the best teams in the world it is inevitable that Blues will push on to bigger and better things this season, with a bit more luck Blues would be way up there, with some nice pieces of silverware as well maybe? Unlucky lads!
We will bounce back…
Tomorrow Blues entertain Kevin Keegan’s men, if last season’s result is anything to go by we should win this by at least 2-1.
It IS defiantly a fact that NO team in the premier league is a push over – EVERY team can pull off great results on their day, this is why they’re in the premier league – Wolves proved this last season by beating Man United at home.
The Man City game will be difficult for Blues – with the likes of Anelka, who will go into this game very confident after scoring at Anfield last Saturday. Man City are looking quite solid defensively this season with the addition of a Blues ‘favourite’ Danny Mills, who I’m sure, will get to some of our players.
Man City are no push overs and on their day perform very well as a unit - home and away.
But Blues are slight favourites I would have thought with being at home. King Kenny, and the FORS are now both available for selection, and I’m sure they will be selected to start – the FORS taking his place along Emile and King Kenny replacing Martin Taylor, but I’m unsure whether he will defiantly take the Skippers armband from the sublime Matty Upson, his organisation skills appeared brilliant and therefore he may hold onto it!
This again raises the question – why doesn’t he appear in the first team plans with Sven? I think the answer is clear – LONDON clubs players usually get the call up don’t they (yes it is very annoying.) The same goes for Emile too!
Bruce virtually has a full squad to pick from apart from David Dunn (hamstring) Robbie Savage (banned) Darren Anderton (not match fit) and it is yet to be confirmed whether Clint is a possibility after picking up an injury while on international duty last week, which was the reason he didn’t feature against Chelsea.
With the FORS and King Kenny coming back Blues will be solid, both offensively and defensively – if Blues can perform as they did against Roman’s billions I’m sure we will be very comfortable, as long as we go into the game quietly confident and calm.
Leigh Whitehouse is a die hard, 17 year-old Birmingham City season ticket holder who is currently studying English & Media (A-Level) at college.
He will be giving us his predictions immediately before each game Blues play this season.
Therefore for this home game I’m going to go for a home win... 3-1
