The 18-year-old Blues midfielder had looked likely to extend his loan deal with The Robins into a second month but has returned to St Andrew's because of the death of his Grandfather.
"Nick was close to his grandfather and wants to be back home so he can help his mum, through their loss," City boss Gary Johnson told the official Bristol City website.
"We had talked about extending the loan, but the situation has changed."
Wright made 5 first team appearances during his one month on loan at Ashton Gate.
