The Belgian keeper, who has been sidelined with a knee ligament injury since the last Premiership clash between the two sides in March this year, will be on the bench for the Birmingham derby at lunchtime on Sunday.
With Maik Taylors serving a one game ban for his sending off at Old Trafford and Irish under 20 international Colin Doyle sidelined with a knee injury, Ian Bennett takes over in goal with Vaesen deputising.
"I had a chat with Nico and he's willing to step in," manager Steve Bruce told the clubs official website www.bcfc.com.
"He’s trained for the last two weeks and maybe it's ten days too early for him but under the circumstances we’ll go with him."
