Upson has been selected in manager Sven-Göran Eriksson's 23-man squad for the qualifiers against Austria in Vienna on Saturday 4th September and the game against Poland in Chorzow four days later. England Squad: James (Man City), Robinson (Tottenham), Green (Norwich), G Neville (Man Utd), A Cole (Arsenal), Bridge (Chelsea), Terry (Chelsea), King (Tottenham), Carragher (Liverpool), Upson (Birmingham City), Beckham (Real Madrid), Lampard (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Dyer (Newcastle), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Butt (Newcastle), Wright-Phillips (Man City), J Cole (Chelsea), Jenas (Newcastle), Owen (Real Madrid), Vassell (Aston Villa), Defoe (Tottenham), Smith (Man Utd)
Eriksson saw both Blues players in action in the game against Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Saturday in what was probably Heskey's poorest performance in a Blues shirt so far this season.
To be fair to the Blues' record signing however, he did appear to be still struggling with the ankle injury sustained in the midweek win against Man City at St Andrew's.
Upson didn't exactly play that well in front of the watching England coach either!!
