The England international centre-back, who has been the subject of recent media speculation surrounding his Blues future, has a clause in his present deal which allows him to open contract negotiations after completing sixty Premier League games in Blues colours.
Upson has currently completed 56 league games since his move from Arsenal back in February 2003 and Bruce has confirmed that contract negotiations with Upson are due to get underway shortly.
Upson has been a rock in partnership with Kenny Cunningham at the heart of the Blues defence since moving from Highbury and Bruce is keen to tie him down to a long term deal. Upsons present deal at St Andrew's still has 18 months to run.
