Upson Contract Talks 'Going Nicely'

Last weekends tabloids suggested that Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez was poised to launch a £5million bid for the England international defender should he turn down the offer of a new deal at St Andrew's but Bruce insists that Liverpool have made no approach.

Upson still has 15 months to run on his present contract at Blues but part of the deal when he signed from Arsenal back in January 2003 was that after he had played 60 games for the club he would be offered a new improved contract.

Upson has now surpassed that 60 game figure and talks of a new contract at Blues are said by Bruce to be 'going nicely'.

The Blues boss has also denied suggestions that Upson's contract at Blues had in it a buy-back clause with Arsenal
