Melchiot and Izzet are each likely to be sidelined for about a month with thigh and hamstring injuries respectively but Kilkenny could be fit in time for Blues' Carling Cup quarter final against Manchester United on Tuesday evening.
Elsewhere, Mikael Forssell, who has been sidelined for the last five weeks with a thigh injury picked up in training, has trained this week and will go straight back into the squad for Saturday evening's live television game at Eastlands whilst defender Martin Taylor is also available again after missing last weekends home win against Fulham with a twisted ankle.
Man City boss Stuart Pearce will be without the suspended Richard Dunne and Andy Cole whilst Danny Mills also misses the game through injury.
