Right back Jerry Gill, Blues reserve team captain, has joined Northampton Town for a months trial.
Northampton boss, former Blues player, Kevan Broadhurst is keen to make the move permanent should Gill impress at The Cobblers.
"The gaffer said he's not forcing me out but it's obvious that I will struggle to get beyond the reserves," Gill told the B'ham Evening Mail.
"Without sounding conceited, a lot of the staff have said that reserve football is not a challenge for me any more, there is a danger I could become stale and my game go sloppy.
"Of course I'd love to play in the first team and maybe in the past I'd stay and hang in there.
"I'm at the stage now, though, where I've got to move on. You work hard all week in the hope of playing competitively on a Saturday and when that doesn't happen you are left feeling empty."
