There's only one Stern John

I've been so pleased in recent weeks to see Steve Bruce stick with John up-front - even if he hasn't been prolific in front of goal - his overall performances have credited team selection.

And, at West Ham on Saturday Bruce's faith in him was proved to all who witnessed his performance.

Two brilliantly taken goals yes, but, his holding up of the ball, his passing, and his movement off the ball caused the Hammers defence problems all afternoon, they simply couldn't handle him.

Also, the chemistry between himself and Clinton Morrison grows with every game - the chance he created for his strike partner early in the second-half and for some reason not shown on the TV highlights - springs to mind.

John's performance was quite simply the best by a Blues centre-forward that I've witnessed in a long, long time, and one recognised by the entourage of Blues fans inside Upton Park who applauded him graciously when he was substituted near the end of the game.

What a pity he couldn't have come home from the game with a hat-trick and the match ball - never happy are we!!
