However, the German born keeper is under no illusions that he face a battle to claim the number one slot from Ian Bennett and Nico Vaesen, when he returns from injury.
"There is great competition and I am not guaranteed a starting role," he told the clubs official website.
"Yes, it would be great to be involved in the opening Premiership game at Tottenham but I know Benno. He is a top quality keeper and has been here a long time. It is going to be extremely difficult for me to get in.
"He wants the position as much as I do. Hopefully that will bring out the best in the both of us."
