The Blues striker netted the second goal right on the stroke of full time as the Soca Warriors won 2-0 in this the first game of their 2006 World Cup qualifiers at The Olimpico Juan Pablo Duarte stadium in Santa Domingo.
"This match was a difficult one for us. I think it's the most set of running the team had to do in a while," John told The Trinidad and Tobago Express.
"But, say what, we went out there and got the result which is the only thing that matters at this stage.
"I was glad to make a contribution by scoring because before that I missed a couple easy chances too. Hopefully, the team can just continue its gelling process from here," he added.
The second leg will be played at the Manny Ramjohn stadium in Marabella this coming Sunday.
