With Leeds currently second from bottom of the table, 5 points adrift of the safety zone with just 8 games remaining, clubs are sure to have been alerted by the news that the 23-year-old England striker has put a question mark over his future with the cash-strapped Yorkshire side - not least Blues.
Manager Steve Bruce confirmed that he had made an enquiry as to the availability of Smith during the last transfer window in January only to be told the star forward was not for sale.
Should Leeds be relegated then surely Bruce, along with many others I'm sure, will be back in for the hitman at the end of the season.
Newcastle, Villa and Liverpool are all reported to be keen on Smith too.
