The Blues skipper has missed the last three games with the hamstring injury he sustained 22 minutes into the 2-1 home win against Southampton on 14th April.
However, Johnson has now recovered and is expected to go straight back into the 16-man squad that travel to Deepdale for the final game of the Championship season on Sunday lunchtime.
One player who won't be in the squad for the game is influential midfielder Fabrice Muamba who will be serving an automatic one game ban for his sending off in the 2-0 home win against Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday.
So, it would be expected that Johnson will replace the suspended Muamba in central midfield with the rest of the team being that which started against The Owls last weekend.
