It took Berti Vogts' side just five minutes to open the scoring when Manchester Utd midfielder Darren Fletcher finished well with a right foot drive from inside the box after being set-up by Everton winger James McFadden. Scotland: Gordon, McNamara, Mackay (Webster, 85), Pressley, McAllister, Holt (Kerr, 54), G Caldwell (S.Caldwell, 79), Fletcher, Quashie (R.Hughes, 71), McFadden (McNamee, 85), Crawford (Miller, 68). Trinidad & Tobago: Ince, Sancho, Cox, Andrews, Eve (Jemmot, 81), Edwards (Theobald, 89), Dwarika (Nixon, 74), Jones (Rojas, 46), Mason, Glen (Boucard, 28), John.
Seven minutes later and the Scots were two-up courtesy of a Gary Holt header, Fletcher the provider on this occasion.
The game was effectively over as a contest on 23 minutes when Fletchers corner was headed home at the back post by Hibernian midfielder Gary Caldwell to give Scotland a 3-0 advantage.
Portsmouth's Nigel Quasie put the home side further ahead on 35 minutes with a sweet 20-yard side-footed effort to send the Scots in at half time with their biggest first half goal haul for 28 years.
The Soca Warriors looked a lot brighter in the second period as Scotland appeared to take their foot off the gas a little and John reduced the deficit on 55 minutes when he lashed home a left foot shot from 12 yards out.
Nine minutes later the Blues striker came close to grabbing a second but his well struck 25-yard free-kick was well saved by Scotland's debutant keeper Craig Gordon.
Final Score: Scotland 4 - Trinidad & Tobago 1
