The Wales midfielder looked likely to return to the Blues squad for the televised clash with Charlton on Monday night having missed three of Blues last four games with the injury but despite training up until Sunday with no reaction he awoke on the morning of the game feeling sore and was not included in manager Steve Bruces squad for the game with the Addicks at St. Andrew's.
Savage now faces a race against time to be fit for Blues next Premiership clash against Wolves on Saturday lunchtime (live on Sky Premiership Plus Channel).
Wales boss Mark Hughes will also be sweating on whether Savage will be fit in time for his countries two-legged Euro 2004 play-off qualifier against Russia in Moscow on 15th November and Cardiff on 19th November.
