Savage has always claimed is innocence, saying he was suffering from a stomach upset at the time and burst into the referee's changing room after being "caught short".
He said before the verdict, he would appeal if found guilty and true to his word that is exactly what he has done.
A spokesman for the FA said: "Robbie Savage has lodged an appeal.
"It will be heard in due course."
Should Savage's appeal be rejected the Welsh international will face a heftier fine.
