The Wales international midfielder stepped up to score the spot-kick at Elland Road after David Dunn's effort was deemed to have been saved unfairly by Leeds keeper Paul Robinson.
“The rule was when Dunny misses I take them and when I miss, Mikael wants to take them," Savage told the Birmingham Post.
"Dunny wanted to take the second one, too, which proves what a character he is."
To be perfectly honest I don't care who takes them - as long as they score!
