"But I woke on Monday with a stiff calf, possibly because of all the work I'd done, and I felt it would be better all round if I didn't risk playing. "It was a difficult decision to make but it's eased up now and I'm hopeful I'll be ok to play against Wolves at the weekend. "It's definitely not a recurrence of the Achilles injury and I'm confident of playing on Saturday and joining up with Wales next week."
The Wales international midfielder had been hoping to return to Steve Bruce's squad for the game against Charlton on Monday night but after a week's hard training with no reaction to his Achilles injury he woke on the morning of the game feeling sore and was forced to sit out the 2-1 home defeat to the Addicks.
"I must have done 25 miles in training last week and I felt fine on Sunday when the squad was announced," said Sav.
