With manager Alex McLeish resting several key players, the 17-year-old Solihull-born midfielder played the full ninety minutes of the Carling Cup Third Round tie at The Stadium Of Light on Tuesday night. "When I was told I would be in the team the day before, I was walking off from training and I just had this massive grin on my face," Sammons has told the Birmingham Mail. "There was a lot of emotion in there as well because it's what I've wanted to do all my life. "I have had to earn it, but the work doesn't stop now, it has to keep going.
"It's the club I've wanted to play for all my life. It's a blessing to play at the top level.
"I hope to stay in the squad, train with them week in, week out and just try and do my best and keep improving."
