Bruce recently signed a new five year contract at St Andrews but that hasn't stopped the press linking him with the job at St James' Park.
Just today the Sun newspaper was reporting that Newcastle chief Freddie Shepherd had earmarked Bruce for the Magpies post although they say that Blues have inserted a £5million get out clause in Bruce's new contract and that he cannot leave this season.
Bruce has always said when asked about the possibility of one day taking over at Newcastle that he intends completing the job at Blues before he moves anywhere.
The Geordies are rumoured to be looking at putting former Liverpool manager Gerard Houlier in temporary charge of first team affairs with Alan Shearer acting as his right hand man.
