The transfer window closes at 5pm on Monday, until January 1st 2004, and rumours of Savages departure to Everton were hot on the lips of all Bluenoses at St. James' Park on Saturday, some going as far as saying that the deal has already been done!
Toffees boss David Moyes, who made one approach for the Wales international towards the end of July, is claimed to be interested once again in Savage after missing out on three midfield transfer targets over the last week.
I need say no more than that already said by the Singing The Blues match reporter Richard Barker: "I think that the sale of Savage would be a disaster and a backward step.
"After taking the giant strides that we have done in the past 20 months, to sell the player who is clearly the heartbeat of the side and epitomises how far we've come would be nothing short of lunacy.
"However, who am I to doubt Steve Bruce? Everything he's touched so far has turned to gold. I just hope the powers that be that may have taken the decision to sell Savage know what they are doing."
