Gold feels it important that manager Steve Bruce has funds available for team strengthening rather than redevelop the ageing stand. “This is going to be a really expensive project and some of it would have to come out of the manager’s transfer kitty,” Gold told the Sunday Mercury. “We couldn’t recoup all of the cash from sponsorship and while we are all looking towards the top of the table, our Premiership safety is still far from assured. “We would rather spend the money on players until we are established as a Premiership club. By that, I mean a team who won’t be looking over their shoulders every season and fighting relegation otherwise we could build a brand new stand and find ourselves bankrupt like Leicester did. “Also, we don’t want to skimp on this project as this is the final piece in the jigsaw and we really want to make it something special. “There is no timescale as to when we will build this new stand, but I could still give you a list of games when it isn’t sold out. “It will always sell out against the likes of Villa, Manchester United and Arsenal, but we would look pretty silly if we built it and we weren’t full to capacity every week. “However, our support is growing gradually each season as people get to hear about the type of football we are playing, which can only help us in the long term.”
