Savage told the B'ham Evening Mail: "What I said was what I believed. It wasn't a criticism of the lads. It was in the context of us having so many players injured and suspended.
"Some of the lads agreed with me, some of them didn't mind and some of them got the hump.
"But credit to the board of directors. It's fantastic that they realised the seriousness of our situation and have allowed the manager to do his stuff.
"Christophe Dugarry's arrival has given everyone a massive lift. Ferdinand Coly, Stephen Clemence and Jamie Clapham are all good players and will make the competition very healthy.
"The gaffer seems to have others lined up and what's happening can only be good for Birmingham City."
