The Blues full-back twisted his ankle and despite his attempts to play on he was substituted just 18 minutes into the home win against Liverpool last weekend.
However, the injury is not as bad has first thought and the Dutch international now looks likely to be fit in time for the trip to Selhurst Park on saturday, 26th February.
Meanwhile, Australian wing-back Stan Lazaridis could also be in line for a first team recall against Iain Dowie's side. Lazaridis has been sidelined with a thigh injury and has not played since limping out of the FA Cup 3rd Round tie against Leeds United back on January 8th.
