The 27-year-old striker picked up a thigh strain in the 1-0 home defeat against Ipswich Town forcing him to miss Blues' last two games.
Lita had been expected to see out the remainder of his three-month loan spell at St Andrews, which would have ended in mid-December, but both clubs have agreed that he should return to his parent club for treatment on the injury.
"While both clubs are disappointed the loan has been cut short, they have not ruled out the possibility of Lita returning to St Andrew's for another loan spell in the future," a statement on Blues' official website read.
