Keane returns to the Ireland squad for the first time since walking out during the World Cup almost two years ago.
During Keanes absence, and since the appointment of Kerr as replacement to Mick McCarthy, the Blues centre-back has been skipper of his country and the Ireland boss has confirmed he will keep the captains armband.
“Kenny Cunningham will remain as captain. He was captain when I took over as manager and will stay as captain,” Kerr said.
