The Blues midfielder, who was making his first start in almost ten months at Glanford Park, lasted just twenty-five minutes of the game against the League One side before being substituted because of what has been confirmed by manager Steve Bruce as an Achilles injury.
"The injury to Muzzy Izzet was a real blow," Bruce said after the 2-0 win.
"He has got to be a real doubt for Saturday's game against Liverpool. He has got a problem with his Achilles.
"I believe we must have run over a black cat. I have never known anything like it."
Izzet's injury leaves Bruce with a real selection problem for the game against Liverpool. Nicky Butt is suspended, Jiri Jarosik has an ankle injury and Stephen Clemence is sidelined with a hamstring injury. That leaves Bruce with no recognised central midfielders amongst his ranks for this weekend's game.
