Hughsie, who is expected to sign a new three year contract at Blues this week, as managed to hold down a regular place in Steve Bruce's starting eleven over the past few weeks but he is fully aware that the reason for that is down to injuries and suspensions to other regular midfielders. "You just can't do that - come in spasmodically and expect to perform. The gaffer has given me a run now, injuries having helped me in that sense, and I've repaid him and got five goals." "I think somewhere down the line I'll get shuffled around again. I am sure Sav will come straight back into midfield," he said. "He's been consistent for the past two years. Hopefully he'll take my position and I'll take someone else's!"
David Dunn for one has been sidelined for over a month with a long term hamstring injury whilst Robbie Savage has been missing for the last two games against Middlesbrough and Leeds through suspension.
"I've always wanted a run in the team. I've never questioned my ability. But it is no good being in one game, out the next and not playing for four months," Hughsie told the Press Association.
With Robbie Savage now available again after completing his two match ban Hughsie has admitted he wouldn't be surprised at having to switch positions for the away game at Fulham on Saturday.
"I think he'll bring Sav back in because he is one of our best players. He deserves to be in there.
