Emile Heskey bagged his first goal in a Blues shirt to help secure victory against the Grecians in front of more than 4000 fans at St James Park.
Mikael Forssell had given Blues a 72nd minute lead against the Conference side before Heskey opened his Blues account eight minutes from time having replaced Stern John for the last 35 minutes. Winger Stan Lazaridis was the provider for both Blues goals.
