The Blues left-back has been plagued with knee injuries ever since helping Blues back to the top-flight three seasons ago and has finally admitted defeat in his bid to regain full fitness.
G-Man Calls It A Day
Grainger has managed just 13 games for Blues since they were promoted to the Premier league and I'm sure he'll never forget his last game in the Royal Blue shirt.
The popular 32-year-old defender fired home a first half free kick against Manchester United at St Andrew's in the Premier League fixture last season although his joy was short lived as he failed to come out for the second half having ruptured the tendon in his knee again. He has not played since!
Grainger began his career at Colchester United before moving on to Brentford.
He was signed by Blues in 1996 by manager of the time Barry Fry and proved to be an inspirational figure at left back chipping in with a fair share of goals for a defender. He was voted Blues' Player Of The Season in 1999/2000 and went on to make over 200 appearances for the club.
Grainger's playing contract has been cancelled by mutual consent but a testimonial for the defender has been promised for the new year.
Manager Steve Bruce had offered him a place on his coaching staff but Grainger has declined the offer as his family have relocated to South London.
We at Singing The Blues wish him well for the future.
