Figueroa, who had his contract at Blues cancelled by mutual consent having failed to make the breakthrough at St Andrews following his £2.5 million transfer from Rosario Central last summer, scored twice as Argentina beat Uruguay 4-2 to set up a meeting with Peru in the last eight of the competition.
A regular in Keith Bertschins Reserves side, Figueroa made just two appearances in the the Blues full team - once in the Carling Cup tie at Blackpool and a substitutes appearance against Portsmouth in the Premier league.
His contract was terminated in December last year and he signed for Mexican side Cruz Azul FC for an undisclosed fee.
