Blues record signing as twice failed in attempts to make a comeback from the injury which as plagued him for most of his career. "I had done everything right before the Sunderland game but then the hamstring went.
Dunn had been an ever-present in Steve Bruce's side up until the home game with Southampton in mid January but after a hamstring injury sustained during that game he was sidelined until Blues' 4th round tie against Wimbledon when he lasted just over an hour before limping off with a recurrence of the injury, keeping him out for a further month.
He made a substitutes appearance in the local derby at Villa Park on February 22nd but then lasted just 7 minutes of Blues' home defeat to Sunderland last week and is expected to be sidelined for about six weeks after tearing the hamstring this time.
Now Dunn is to contact England striker Owens surgeons in an attempt to seek a long term solution.
"It's become a real problem for me and we're going to try and nail the reasons why," Dunn told the Birmingham Evening Mail.
"It's becoming really frustrating for me and the club. I felt sharp when I came back against Aston Villa. It was fine.
"Michael Owen has suffered from similar problems and he's been all round the world to find cures. He doesn't seem to suffer like he used to so hopefully he can help us by providing some useful information.
"This has been frustrating for me because I had been starting to play a bit better before I was first injured at the end of January. But then came Sunderland and it was a bitter disappointment for myself."
