Adebola suffered a serious knee injury when colliding with a post in last seasons home game with Grimsby and he hasn't only concentrated on getting fit again.
"I didn't just concentrate on getting fit but saw this as a reason to change my make up," he said.
"If you want to improve as a player you've got to alter certain things about yourself.
"I've never had a problem with it, I've always felt fine, but I thought maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to lose some weight. By doing so it's given me a lot more energy and I feel a lot sharper.
"Whether or not I have lost a bit of power, I won't know until I'm back playing again. But I do think this could help me.
When Trevor Francis was here and we were running in behind for endless balls I became knackered after two or three.
"If I need to reproduce that in the future then I'll probably be able to do it better.
"I just felt that maybe I could get a bit more of an advantage if I lost some weight and hopefully that's what will happen."
Adebola's contract at Blues runs-out in June and he knows he has to get back into the first team squad and show manager Steve Bruce what he can do. "I've always maintained I would like to stay at the club," said Adebola.
"Especially so if there is any doubt or any problems, although that hasn't really crossed my mind because I don't feel as if I'm injured anymore.
"I'm just basically trying to get fit and I'm looking forward to playing again."
Bruce played in the same Blues side as Adebola when the striker joined from Crewe in 1998 for £1 million.
"I'm eager to see him again," said Bruce. "We all know what he can do.
"He's a big, powerful lad, very much sought after. We've tried to help him as best we can and, to be fair, he's worked solidly, day in, day out, to get over this injury.
"In the next couple of weeks he should be ready to join in with the first team again, and it will be great to see him back."
