The Blues centre-back, who had been called into Don Givens squad for the first time, will not now travel with the Irish Under 21's for their friendly international against Portugal at the Municipal Stadium, Rio Maior on Tuesday, 8th February.
Painter was recently named in the Republic of Ireland's Under 19 squad for the double header against the Italians in January but was forced to withdraw from that squad also through injury.
