Damien OK after reserves outing

The Northern Ireland international midfielder was taken off after 55 minutes of the game and there were fears he had suffered a set-back.

However, Johnson has confirmed he is in good health and hoping for inclusion in Steve Bruce's squad to take on Sunderland on Saturday.

"My hamstring felt fine all throughout the first half. At the start of the second half it tightened up a bit and I went over to see if I could get a stretch from the physio," Johnson told the B'ham Evening Mail.

"It was decided to take me off as a precaution and there was no problem with it afterwards.

"I think I probably needed a warm-up before we got going again after the break.

"Up to the game I'd done a lot of hard training but no ball work with our physios. I felt okay in the first half and not as lethargic as I thought I might.

"I've got a whole week's training to come, which is good, and hopefully I won't have any reaction."

On his chances of making the game at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, Johnson said: "If the gaffer feels I'm up to it, then I feel I'm up to it. Nothing's been said to me personally but I hope I am in his plans."
