A superb defensive display and some world class saves from keeper Maik Taylor earned a point against Kevin Keegans side but the Blues skipper admitted that the side didn't play well.
"We rode our luck," Cunningham told Sky Premiership Plus after the 0-0 draw.
"In the first half we disappointed ourselves. We showed a lot of of spirit certainly, but we need a bit more quality than that.
"I feel a little bit sorry for Manchester City but I'm sure if they show that kind of spirit and determination they'll have no relegation worries."
